taxi driver .
we tend to take our parents for granted .
we only believe our side of the story ..
we always wonder , why are they like this and like that ?
why do they always break their promises ? why are they always late ?
but have you ever stop for a moment and think , our parents are not gods .
they’re human beings too , they too make mistakes . and if they are late for dinner , who knows something might crop up at work ? or there’s a traffic jam ?
i witness something today that might or have already changed my perspective on my parents or should i say my mum . she’s always late for dinner , gathering and every other activities . i always blame her for that .
well , i was running late for an interview at ION Orchard .
so , i sat a cab there .
i was using my iPhone to pass time in the cab .
when suddenly a phone rang .
the phone was automatically set to loud speaker mode ,
i could heard the conversation between the taxi driver and his daughter clearly .
what i heard was this :
Taxi Driver : ’ Yes ? ’
Daughter : ’ Daddy , where are you ? ’
before he could reply her .
Daughter : ’ you isit don’t want to come home ? ’
Taxi Driver : ’ No , give me 15mins and i will be back home . ‘
-he hung up the phone-
it didn’t bother me much at first ..
untill she called him again .
the second time ,
Daughter : ’ Daddy , where are you ! you really don’t want come home arh ? ’
Taxi Driver : ’ Give daddy 15minutes okay ? i will be home soon . ’
Daughter : ’ why you always like that one ! ’
this is when he made a wrong turn .
he hung up the phone again .
and apologies to me , i told him it was okay .
after i alighted at Orchard .
the conversation i heard really bothered me .
i could see that the taxi driver was really bothered by it too .
if i was in his shoes ;
i would feel rather disappointed in myself ..
that i couldn’t even be on time but on the other hand ,
i know that it’s inevitable as i got to work and support my family .
there’s no other choice ; it’s either be late or lose money and couldn’t support the family ..
after a long thought about it , i feel that this particular taxi driver is really awesome . not only he did not raise his voice at his daughter , he still calmly told his daughter that he will be home after 15minutes .
our parents are working hard and suffering out there .
if you do not know , as we are growing up . they’re too growing old .
so the least you could do is love them and show them the due respect.
they might be unreasonable at times but they’re still your parents .
without them , there are no you .
